Technology. It's a word that makes you think of the best phone, the coolest laptop, the newest iPod. With all the things technology does, it has to be a good thing, right? We've all had the one moment where your mom or dad tells you to get of the laptop, phone, etc., at about 11 at night. Is it because you need to text your bff about tonight's episode of Glee, or is it because you're addicted? My family started telling me I was becoming addicted to technology, but I was convinced they were wrong. She told me to prove it by going 24 hrs without technology. Did I do it? Did I defy the odds and do it without 1 breakdown? Nope. I broke down in two hrs. It's dissapointing, but true. So beware, you could become addicted without even knowing it!

I'm not sure if any of you guys have heard about the iSchool project, but my school is doing it! EVERY student in my school gets and iTouch, and all the staff members get an iPad. I am super excited! We get to use it all year, take it home everyday. We'll have our textbooks on it, and things for school. And if we graduate, we'll get to keep it! Because I am a SBO, I get mine on Wednesday to work out the kinks and stuff so that they don't have 1500 kids coming to them with problems.  Then we'll return them until the rest of the school gets their too(: But yes! I am so excited. This has been a hot topic in my neighborhood since my school won the grant for this.  Some people worry about it, and haven't been all for this change, but other people are all for it! I live in a not so rich town, and usually at activities that involve other schools, we get a lot of schools who think they're better then us because they have more money.  But the iSchool is giving us a name in our community. It's showing the rest of this state that we are not as ghetto as they think we are.  You can watch youtube video's of the kid who started all this. He's a college student now, and he's coming to our school for a kick off assembly. Apple is coming, and so are many major news stations. I am super excited that my school will get all this recognition.  This is a super exciting thing for my school, and it seems like the hallways are always abuzz with this news. The teachers are also so excited, it's not just the students! This is a new program, and I think that my school is one of the first in the country to do this. I'm sure that other schools will start doing this soon, so your school could be next!(:

According to a newreportfrom the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, teen drug use is on the rise and researchers are concerned that media like TV, video games and social networking sites may be linked to the increase of substance abuse.

The report says that drug use among teens has increased for the first time since 1998, and 75 percent of the teens who were surveyed admitted that "their friends get high at parties." But what does this have to do withTwitter? Well, the organization says that teens spend around 53 hours per week engaging in various forms of electronic media -- that means sitting in front of the TV, updating their statuses onFacebookand tweeting or texting friends.

The org says these media are distractions that give parents fewer opportunities to talk to their kids about the dangers of drugs. While there's no evidence of a direct link between IMing and drug use, the report is saying that these activities may be interfering with quality talk time, which can help deter teens from experimenting with drugs.

That was another original article...Now here is what I have to say.

I do agree with this report, because like I said on Twitter, basically we Tweet whatever comes into our heads. & we all know that some people are not very nice, & since you can say ANYTHING on Twitter, they can say something offensive to you...That may lead to depression & after a while, the use of drugs.

So, do you spend a lot of time Tweeting, updating your status & chilling in front of the TV?

If you do, try to stop it a bit. Spend time with your family, play with your friends, INTERACT with people. Believe me, face-to-face is better than an IM chat! :)

Thirty states in the U.S. have banned texting while driving as you know from our extensive coverage about the dangerous habit among teen drivers. Now two companies are partnering to create safety software that stops drivers from texting behind the wheel using the GPS in your phone. Web Safety Inc. will use technology from Manage Mobility, a logistics firm in Alpharetta, Georgia to produce and distribute the software.

The software, dubbed CellSafety, will block drivers -- particularly targeting teen drivers -- from sending text messages while they are in a moving vehicle. And some car companies, including Ford, are finding ways to protect drivers from distractions by adding call and message blocking services within a car's computer systems. Did you know that 61% of teens admit to risky driving habits? And 47% of those teens said they text while driving! That's only one study by AAA and Seventeen. Think of how many teens are doing it each day despite the laws in their states.

Since enforcing these laws can be pretty tricky, CellSafety just might be the solution to end senseless accidents and deaths among teens at the wheel. Do you think this new software will be the next big thing?I think it will be because even banning texting and driving won't stop people and make them break the habit.

I just got my mood ring 2 days ago. I was curious how it worked so i looked it up. I thought it was cool so i wanted to share with you!

Where it started.

Joshua Reynolds invented the mood ring in the 1970s. It was a big fad!

How does it work?

Heat sensitive liquid crystals are inside the mood ring. If the body temp of the person changes so does the color of the ring.

Color Chart:

Golden Yellow: Tense

Blue: Happy

Purple: Moody

Black: Down

Reddish Brown: Insecure

Clear: Fraud

Green: Easily amused

A new BlackBerry called the Torch, with both a touchscreen and slide-out QWERTY keyboard, was unveiled Tuesday by Research In Motion, which hopes to stop which the bleeding of customers migrating to the iPhone and phones using the Android operating system.

The phone, also known as the BlackBerry 9800, will be available Aug. 12, and cost $199 with a two-year contract with AT&T, which will be the exclusive provider of the Torch.

The device will use RIM's new Operating System 6, which includes a badly needed re-do of the BlackBerry Web browser, which is painfully slow and frustrating to use. The new browser is called the Torch Mobile browser. It is based on WebKit, the same engine used by Apple and Google.

The Torch, noted NPD analyst Ross Rubin, looks "a bit like a high-end Palm Pre" with its touchscreen and slide-out keyboard. It has a 3.2-inch, 360-by-480 capacitive touch-screen display.

The phone, with Wi-Fi, has pinch-to-zoom on the touchscreen, something the iPhone and other devices already feature. It also has a 5-megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, as well as "environment" settings. The camera will name pictures by location.

A hallmark of the new operating system is universal search, RIM CEO Mike Lazardis said at a press conference. Universal search is something offered already on the iPhone, Android and Palm devices. It lets users search their devices by keyword to find anything on the device — in e-mail, contacts or music, for example — to that keyword.

The operating system "is cool," but there's not much there that "we haven't seen before elsewhere," said Michael Gartenberg, Interpret LLC analyst........

Yes you heard me right. Are you a YouTube watcher, and a facebook accout owner?? If you are, I suggest you read on, like now! So, I found out that tons of people have been getting viruses from YouTube lately. (This virus has nothing to do with YouTube) This virus hacks Facebook accounts. The virus posts a status update on your FB account, posting a video link, and some more words along the line that I cannot repeat on here. The point of this? So people will click on the video link, and take you to a site, and TADA! you have a virus. Congratulations, you've been hacked. Unforrtunetly, this virus isn't set to a few specific videos, meaning, if you have a Facebook account, you probably should be careful for what you watch on YouTube. If you want to see a music video, you should probably go to the singers website and watch it. It'd be safer.So please, be more careful with what you watch on YouTube, and be more careful with what you do on the Internet.

Hey girls!

 

I recently saw this article on Yahoo, and I found it very intresting, so I thought I'd share it with the lovely girlies on Allykatzz! Basically, it's about a company based out of India, which is home to companies inventing things known as the "world's cheapest" , including a $2,000-ish car, a $16 water purifier, and $2,000 open-heart surgery, all of which are in rapid demand in India and developing as well as developed countries! They invented a tablet computer, which looks roughly like Apple's iPad and would cost roughly $30 if marketed and made for purchase by the public.

 

The company says it's their answer for a project started by MIT (Massachusettes Institute of Technology) which is called One Laptop Per Child. Basically, their mission was to provide one laptop per child for children in the developing world so they could have basic things to complete school work, and allow them to go to school, etc. OLPC's laptop was originally thought to be priced at $100, which India found too expensive, so they started a multi-year project to create a computer that could do basic things like write word documents, allow web browsing, and house video conferencing, among other things. They haven't actually made the product beyond prototypes yet, but it's tentitively set to come out in 2011 if the companies that showed intrest in making it, including a Taiwanese company, follow through.

 

The reason why the laptop is so cheap, therefore accessable to students in developing India, and possibly in the US and Canada if they import it? Because the hardware that goes into a laptop doesn't cost as much anymore, and a smart, intelligent design make it possible. Also, the tablet design costs less to create, as well as the memory card, the same thing that's in your cell phone, insted of a hard disk. This is what got me questioning . . . Basically, about fair trade. While creating this blog, my train of thought went out of control, and I realized I needed a seprete blog on fair working conditions because I had so much to say! Please stay tuned for that, coming very soon, as in today or tomorow!

 

Anyways, I think the general idea of this tablet laptop is great, because it really enables students to take charge of their own learning and make it possible! I love how the laptop is part of the Indian government's plan to make study materials and school available online, which would probably be convenient for kids living in remote villages that don't have schools. This really made me appreciate having an awesome school just 15 minutes walking from my house! And being a girl and being able to go to school at all, for that matter!

 

So, after that whole long learning process, I want to know what YOU think! What do you think about a laptop costing about $30 and how it would affect kids in India and all over the developing world? Do you think it's going to help the world become more educated if we create something like this? Would you buy it if they eventually sell it overseas? Do you try and buy fair trade products, or do you honestly not know where your stuff comes from? Don't be ashamed, I don't know where most of mine does either! Anyways, hope this blog gets you thinking!

When you hear the word "Future", what do you think of? Do you think about flying cars and ships? Or maybe bright neon buildings? Well, no one really knows what the future holds. But I personally think the future might (MIGHT) be a big bummer. Why? You ask. Think about it: all of our animals might be replaced with electronics, we might have cameras and computers... IN OUR BATHROOM! (Uck!) Robots will replace everyone's job. Yet, another part of me looks forward to the future. I mean c'mon! No tween girl can wait for their Sweet 16. And getting to go to college will be awesome! But no matter how you put it, the future can go one way or another.
